ENGLISH

idhoca is a lab of ideas and images. A workshop of craftsmen of the

communication involved in the field of graphics on and off-line.

Idhoca was born and raised in Sardinia. This didn't happen by chance but it was a very well thought choice: starting to build our future by defeating the passive behaviour of the present and investing on the current events of our national culture within a wider international forum.

Idhoca in Sardinian mythology

The legend says that Idhoca was a Nuragic queen. Her daughter died in a battle and Idhoca, heartbroken by this loss, took some big stones which were there ready for building a Nuraghe. She cast them  with a superhuman strength. The fragments of those large stones  were stuck in the ground and, still today, bear the marks of her desperate hands. Idhoca herself turned into a rock for the grief. If you want, you can see her among the menhirs of central Sardinia.

Idhoca in linguistics

Idhoca is a Prenuragic name and, although it has more than four thousand years, not  much has changed with respect to its root. For some idhoca/iddocca is a toponym that finds its etymology in the Babylonian illukku/iddukku: rare stone, stone of great value, stone worship.

Idhoca in our logo

The logo of this site is written using the graphic of the letters taken from the syllabic alphabet of the Inuktitut language.  This is spoken by the Inuit Eskimo people who live in lands provisionally governerned by Canada (Territory of Nunavut, Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Province of Quebec, North-West Territories, Yukon Territory), the United States of America (State of Alaska) and Denmark (Autonomous Province of Greenland). The group of Inuit language was spoken throughout the arctic and subarctic areas of Labrador and Russia.

The Inuktitut letters we used to write idhoca should sound as this: saakusanilavi, which doesn't have any sense in the Inuit Language.
